In 1997, God spoke to Bishop Samuel Gathuma through a vision to start a church in Kamakwa Town in Nyeri, Kenya. He, therefore, founded Faith Gospel Church in 2000 and the Church was registered in October 2003. Bishop’s encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ started when God first spoke to him through a dream in January 1989. He was convicted of his sins, and he accepted Christ as his personal savior. Thereafter, he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and started serving God while still in fulltime employment. As time went by, he heard God’s calling to win and disciple souls for the Kingdom. Before getting into fulltime ministry Bsp Gathuma had worked with the Kenya Government as a planning officer and with donor funded programs involved in rural development activities.

Bishop Gathuma’s main desire is to fulfill the Great Commission and through the ministry, many souls have been won for Christ since the inception of the ministry. From a humble beginning, the church has since opened 21 more branches in various parts of the country and has continued to grow. It recently opened two new branches in Uganda and Burundi.

Bishop Gathuma is the National General Overseer of the Faith Gospel Churches. He has preached both in and out of Kenya and is a member of the College of Bishops in Kingdom Fellowship Covenant Ministry, (KFCM)- a synergistic network of ministries that is based in Maryland, USA. He has for three years preached on MBCI National TV under “The Overcomers Program” and now runs a weekly program on Breaking The Limits (BTL) TV, all based in Kenya. Apart from providing spiritual covering to several ministries, he is the secretary of Nyeri Ecumenical Council of Bishops, the prayer coordinator of Nyeri County clergy, an executive member of Mt Kenya Spiritual Gatekeepers, and Chairman of Vineyard Dynamic Sacco whose members consist of the Nyeri County clergy among other responsibilities.

Bishop Gathuma is married to Mary Wanja Kariuki, and they are the proud parents of two sons (Pst. Stanley and John), and two daughters (Monicah and Esther) and proud grandparents.
